A new health care solution to provide information (contraindications etc.) on prescribed drugs to one’s mobile phone. A way to make patients aware and take responsibility for their own health.

MTN Care Connect and Salam have launched a pilot project to provide a basic health care guidance to all South Africans. It claims not to replace health service but to help with increasing accessibility to reliable health information.

Formal relationship -ATA and TSI (India)

In his keynote at the mHealth Summit organized by GSMA and the mHealth alliance, Prof. Dr. K. Ganapathy, President- Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation makes a strong case for mhealth leadership to come from health professionals for successful user centered implementation.

In his capacity as President of Telemedicine Society of India Dr.Ganapathy signed a MOU with American Telemedicine Association for closer collaboration between India and the USA in the field of Telemedicine.

This is the first ASIA-PACIFIC summit on telecare taking place in Hong Kong. With its rapid ageing population there is no surprise that they want to shape the agenda. Fight against Malaria- Tanzania

Using various interventions and mobile phone platform to  monitor breeding grounds of the disease, the fight against malaria has proved successful in reducing the prevalence of the disease from 41% in 2001 to 0.4% in 2011. However the challenge remains the sustainability of such programs and behavioral changes as well as the reliability of technology that support data collection and analysis. Read more

  1. The Global System for Mobile communication Association is concerned with finding a business model to deploy mhealth to yield maximum investment return to the mobile industry.
  2. USAID is considering the development of a business case for more involvement of mobile operators in mhealth.
  3. UN foundation is announcing research studies to be released at the summit.

Tackling the effect of social isolation-Mexico

Project Zumbido launched by the SMH foundation uses social network to reduce isolation of people with long term HIV?AIDS.
